The Boston Bruins faced off against the Penguins last Saturday night. The match seemed to progress smoothly with no major penalties or issues. That is until after the match, when the NHL shockingly imposed a huge fine on Kevin Shattenkirk for no apparent reason.

NHL's Safety Concerns

Following the game, however, the NHL's Department of Player Safety raised serious concerns. Early Sunday, they imposed a maximum fine of $2,734.38 on a player for unsportsmanlike conduct, though the specifics of the incident were not shared by the league.

Theories Surrounding the Fine

The incident that might have triggered this response from the NHL is still unclear. Kevin Shattenkirk of the Bruins did not engage in any aggressive behavior during the game that typically warrants such a huge fine.
However, a separate event involving Penguins' Michael Bunting and Bruins' goalie Linus Ullmark could be linked to the fine. It's said that Shattenkirk's retaliation from the bench towards Bunting, following Bunting's contact with Ullmark, might have been the reason.
The silence surrounding the NHL's decision highlights the challenges in maintaining player safety while keeping the fans in the loop. Fans and players alike are left to wonder about the specifics of the event deemed unsportsmanlike, showing the need for clear communication from the league regarding bigger penalties.
