The Colorado Avalanche have picked off right where they left off last season. The team looks to be among the favorites for the Stanley Cup as their 11-6 record has them 2nd in the Central division. However, they will be without one of their blueliners for the foreseeable future, potentially making their matchups more difficult in the short-term.

Girard Away From Avalanche Due To Personal Reasons

Avalanche defenseman Sam Girard is reportedly away from the team due to personal reasons at the moment. The team did not provide any further details or a timeline for his return out of respect for Girard's privacy.
Girard will not play tonight, per Bednar on his @AltitudeSR show.

He's currently away from the team for personal reasons.
Girard has a goal and four assists through 15 games with the Avalanche this season. The team will face off against a new Pacific Division leader in the Vancouver Canucks tonight as Quinn Hughes and Cale Makar face off for the first time this season. Vancouver is 13-5-1, good for 2nd in the Pacific Division behind only Vegas. Hughes leads the league with 30 points, making tonight's matchup all the more interesting.
