This NHL insider just revealed the likelihood of Patrick Kane signing a deal in Toronto, and it isn't looking good for Leaf fans.

Kane Unlikely To Sign in Toronto According to Elliotte Friedman

Patrick Kane has been the hot commodity this offseason, as many teams look to add the veteran UFA to their roster this season in hopes of reaping the benefits of his experience and depth-scoring ability.
While rumors of Kane signing in Buffalo lead the speculation charge, it has been rumored that the Toronto Maple Leafs also showed interest in Kane. However, Elliotte Friedman has revealed that the Leafs are unlikely to land Kane.
"I don't see Patrick Kane happening, especially with the emergence of Nick Robertson and how well he's been playing. You have Matthew Knies, who's playing unbelievably. I don't think Kane fits necessarily right now for the Leafs. And I think those kind of talks have stalled, and that he'll be going elsewhere."

This does make sense. To sign Kane, the Leafs have to be certain that he is worth the cap space over Robertson and Knies, guys who are making less than a million per year. It's not clear that Kane would be any better production-wise than a guy like Knies.

Toronto Signing Kane Could Hurt Them Long Term

If the Leafs were to sign Kane, it could also hurt them long-term. Pushing Knies to the bottom of the roster and Robertson out would significantly hinder their development as NHL players.
Knies is getting the full treatment in the NHL playing on the first line with Matthews and Marner, and he is taking it in stride. This will go a long way for his confidence and his development, playing against opposing teams' best shutdown defenders every night.

One-timer!
Signing Kane would also likely mean Robertson gets sent down, again. Not only would this hurt his development, but it could lead him to asking for a trade or, not re-signing when he becomes a free agent next year.
This was a fantastic goal scored by Nick Robertson #LeafsForever
