The Edmonton Oilers, despite their success this past season, have had fan criticism over the Inconsistent play of Starter Jack Campbell, with the Oilers willing to have the Goalie moved if things don't improve.

Campbell Expected To Improve On Mixed Season

The Oilers spent big money to acquire Jack Campbell as a Free Agent, dishing out a $25M contract for 5 Years in the Summer of 2022, after Campbell backstopped the Toronto Maple Leafs to their two highest regular season Point totals in team history, although Campbell had struggled to maintain that same level in Edmonton.
According to The Athletic's Allan Mitchell, it's possible that Campbell could be moved out from Edmonton if he fails to rebound from last season.

Campbell, who was an All-Star in Toronto in 2022, struggled to maintain his form past the break, performing inconsistently for the Leafs, who ended up losing in the first round to the Tampa Bay Lightning, with Campbell having a 3.15 GAA and .897SV%. The same issue has creeped in with his time with the Oilers, with a 3.41 GAA and .884SV% despite a record of 21-9-4. Youngster Stuart Skinner has begun to emerge as a potential option for the Oilers down the road, challenging Campbell much sooner than expected.

Skinner vs Campbell for the Crease

Mitchell's Projections have Skinner taking the starters net from Campbell, although the Veteran Campbell is likely to continue getting his chances, even with Skinner proving himself as a potential NHL starting Goalie.
Campbell, 31, does have some positivity going for himself, as a strong NHL Playoffs seemed to showcase that he still has a lot left in terms of talent, with Skinner struggling in the second round vs eventual Stanley Cup champions Vegas, Campbell appeared in 3 games in relief in the series, saving 22/23 shots, with a 1.01 GAA and .961SV%. Even with the small sample size, Campbell has still proven he can be called upon when needed, and made even more challenging the decision over who will be able to emerge as the Oilers starter of the next few years.
