As the dust settles after their early exit from the playoffs at the hands of the New Jersey Devils, the New York Rangers have started to look for a new head coach. Their partnership with Gerard Gallant was cut short following a disappointing first-round defeat, leaving the Blue Shirts in need of new leadership.
The latest rumors suggest that veteran coach Peter Laviolette is being lined up for the role. The man boasts an impressive record, stretching over two decades of NHL experience, crowned by a Stanley Cup victory with the Carolina Hurricanes in 2006.
It was reported that the Rangers initially had their hearts set on Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan. Yet, Sullivan's ties in Pittsburgh, cemented by contractual obligations, make this impossible. Laviolette, being high on the Rangers' list, seems to be the most likely candidate to fill the void.
