The ongoing upheaval within the Toronto Maple Leafs' front office is no secret, especially after the abrupt dismissal of Kyle Dubas without a transparent contingency plan.

This situation has both Leafs Nation and Hockey Insiders speculating about the organization's next steps in appointing a new General Manager. Leafs players are also engaged in this conversation.

Luke Schenn, the newly re-acquired Leafs defender, has recently shared some insider information. He revealed that he had been in talks about a potential contract extension with Dubas before the news of his non-renewal came out. The 33-year-old Schenn disclosed this information last week, just after Dubas was relieved of his duties.
"Luke Schenn indicated that he was in the middle of extension discussions with the Leafs right before Kyle Dubas was dismissed from his duties late last week.
Hopefully, both parties can reconvene once the Leafs have hired a new GM, and work towards establishing a new deal before July 1st.

Schenn has proven to be a valuable addition to the Leafs' defensive lineup since joining the team at this season's trade deadline. His dedication and consistent performance helped him move up from a bottom-pairing role to being partnered with Morgan Reilly during the playoffs.
It's clear that Schenn is eager to sign an extension. However, in the current absence of a General Manager for the Leafs, it remains uncertain whether extension talks for Schenn will resume or if he will be back at all.
