The whole hockey world is rocking after a recent tragedy, but no team in the US more than the Penguins, for whom Adam Johnson played in the NHL, and now, they're making a very positive change.
Despite not being able to make this mandatory at the NHL level, at least until approval from the NHLPA, the Penguins have now decided to make a great change for the safety of their players.
According to reports, they are making neck protection mandatory for players at the ECHL and AHL level, and will strongly recommend the move be made at the NHL level as well.
While these moves can't 100% prevent tragic events, it's certainly a step in the right direction for player safety, and we hope that other teams follow in the Penguins footsteps.
