Some terrible news took the hockey comunity by surprise earlier this week.

Tragic Loss in Hockey World

Hockey legend Morgan Samuelsson has passed away at the age of 55.
The ZSC Lions, Samuelsson's former team in the Swiss League, released an emotional statement:
"It is shocking news that hit Swiss ice hockey shortly before the start of the season. After a long period of suffering, Morgan Samuelsson lost his fight and his heart stopped beating on Sunday night. Samuelsson passed away at home. Far too early – the Swede, who has lived in Switzerland for many years, only turned 55."

"With Samuelsson's death, the world loses not only an ice hockey player with legendary status but also a cheerful and kind-hearted person who would give the shirt off his back for others. Morgan Samuelsson was always an entertaining, yet also deeply insightful conversation partner. When his health deteriorated in recent years, he bore it bravely and fought. Until his heart no longer wanted to beat on Sunday night."

"The ZSC Lions are planning a moment of silence for Morgan Samuelsson during a championship home game.

The entire organization of the ZSC Lions expresses its heartfelt condolences and wishes the relatives much strength!"

Reflecting on Samuelsson's Career

Drafted 123rd overall by the Quebec Nordiques in 1986, Samuelsson never played in the NHL but made his mark in European leagues.
He officially became a legend when he scored the game-winning goal in the final of the 2001 championship.
His career, however, was plagued by injuries, leading to his retirement in 2002. Subsequently, Samuelsson spent a decade coaching before transitioning to a career as a hockey analyst.
We send our deepest condolences to his family and friends.
