In the wake of being the fourth overall selection by the Seattle Kraken last season, Shane Wright has indeed become a polarizing figure in the league. There seems to be a growing divide regarding his standing as he prepares to enter his D+2 season.
Despite his remarkable skills, securing a spot in the NHL still remains uncertain. Given the current regulations of the CHL/NHL agreement, which prohibits him from participating in the AHL, this situation might pose a significant hurdle in his progression.
However, recent developments seem to be favoring Shane Wright and the Kraken. Reports suggest that the CHL is contemplating granting him permission to join the AHL.
This move would prevent Wright from occupying a roster position that could potentially go to a younger player, giving him the opportunity to further develop his skills in Coachella Valley.
"If he does not make the Kraken, I'm under the impression that the CHL is in agreement that it doesn't make any sense for him to go back there and Wright will go to the [AHL]." Friedman said.
Though this scenario isn't what the Kraken envisioned for Wright two seasons post his draft, it seems to be the path unfolding before them.
As the new season looms, all eyes will be on Wright to witness whether this year will mark his breakthrough or signify a stumbling block in his promising career.
