It is with heavy hearts that we report the passing of Jay Brodie due to cancer earlier this week.
According to a statement from the Toronto Sun:
"Jay Brodie, the father of Toronto Maple Leafs blue-liner TJ Brodie and a member of his Southwestern Ontario community's sports hall of fame, is being remembered for his love of family, farming, and sports after dying of cancer on Monday.
He is survived by his wife, Lynn, daughters Justine and Laura, son TJ, and seven grandchildren."
While Brodie Sr. showcased immense talent in hockey, he did not play in the NHL. Instead, he represented Dresden, Ontario, playing for the Chatham Thames Valley Brick, a distinguished midget AA team. His prowess led the team to clinch the championship in the 1977-78 season.
Jay Brodie's contributions to the sport were recognized with his induction into the Chatham Sports Hall of Fame in 2018, and a subsequent honor by the local sports hall of fame just this year.
Furthermore, he was a part of the 1976-77 OMHA finals.
Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with his loved ones at this challenging time.
