All the talk in Toronto recently has been about the extension of William Nylander, so now the question is, will the Four remain in tact for the Maple Leafs?

A former Maple Leaf doesn't believe so

According to Jay Rosehill, a former Maple Leaf turned podcaster, the writing is on the wall for Mitch Marner, and the Leafs should be looking to move on from him to balance out this roster.
"I see it and i can't help, when I think about Willy, I wanna sign Willy, I don't wanna let him go but every time I think about that contract, I think about Marner and what do we do with the Core-4, Marner's no-trades kicked in and it's like what are we gonna do?

Look at the team this year, are they gonna go the distance? Are they gonna win the Stanley Cup this year? It would be some kind of a miracle and maybe some major changes at the trade deadline.. as of right now I don't think having that many eggs in the basket of the core-4 is gonna work, it's not gonna work in the playoffs, you can have some pretty awesome regular seasons... but in my mind, I've said it before, we need to unload Marner and get as much as we possibly can for him."

That's certainly a lot easier said than done, but if the Maple Leafs want to find the right players in net and on the blue line, perhaps the Core Four needs to drop down to three.

Marner the only moveable player in the situation

Rosehill would expand on that thought, rationally putting together that Tavares has little value as a trade candidate, while Matthews and Nylander both just signed huge deals, so when it comes to moving one of them, Marner just becomes the odd man out.

Ultimately, it's tough to see Toronto making a move this season, but if they fail to go deep in the playoffs again, something will have to change, and Marner may just be the player that makes most sense to move.
