The Toronto Maple Leafs have the forward group to compete for a Stanley Cup this season, but until they fill a few of their needs, they just don't have the depth to get it done.
The blue line issues in Toronto stem from several things; lack of depth, lack of leadership and a pure lack of toughness, and thankfully for the Maple Leafs, this trade would see all three of those things fixed.
Looking at the numbers, Tanev has just one goal and 8 points in 40 games played this season, but he brings so much more to the table with his physical style sacrificing his body for his teammates, and being an Ontario kid, all the pieces come together for a big trade.
Sure, they will still need to find a consistent force in net and will need depth scoring and potentially another blue line addition, but Robertson just can't seem to find his spot in the lineup, and with just one third-round pick given up, this would be a huge pickup for Toronto.
