On Monday, the heartbreaking confirmation came through on the passing of Maple Leafs prospect Rodion Amirov.
A life cut short
Amirov was just 21-years old, and was battling a brain tumour for the past two years, and unfortunately that battle has now come to an end.

He was a first-round pick of the Leafs back in 2020, and while he didn't make it to the NHL, he clearly had an impact on many people around him in America and Russia.
An emotional tribute
One of those players is Leafs captain John Tavares, who posted this emotional tribute to Amirov and his loved ones on social media.
It's incredibly hard to comprehend the loss of Rodion. His smile and joy for life & hockey was infectious. My teammates & I are grateful for our time spent with him & forever inspired by his courageous fight. Condolences to his loved ones. We'll miss him dearly.
Despite never making it to the NHL, Amirov was clearly a fantastic person and had a positive impact on all those he came into contact with, so we send condolences to his friends and family on this sad day.
