The Toronto Maple Leafs aren't about to back down when it comes to 22-year-old Nick Robertson. The young forward, who has dealt with injuries throughout his career, has reportedly made it clear that he wants out, but the Leafs are ready to play hardball.
Robertson hasn't changed his mind about wanting a trade, but the Leafs aren't willing to be pushed around by a prospect, even one with his potential. They seem prepared to make him sit out if necessary.
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman put it best.
If Toronto draws a hard line, which I understand they are prepared to do, I just don't see how it benefits him to miss camp. I'd say, 'Nick, how does it benefit you not to be at camp?
The situation puts Robertson in a tough spot. He could take a one-year deal and bet on himself under coach Craig Berube, hoping to prove he deserves a bigger role or attract interest from other teams. But by not showing up, he might end up hurting his own career more than anything else.

Robertson, officially requested a trade after spending years bouncing between the AHL and NHL. He has a lethal shot, a great work ethic, and his skating is good enough for the big leagues. The main concerns have been his size and durability, though he did manage to stay healthy last season.
It's curious that after years of fighting for a spot on the Leafs roster, Robertson is asking for a trade just as an opportunity seems to be opening up.
But he's adamant of wanting to leave the blue and white, meaning we must see what transpires and how GM Brad Treliving approaches the situation.
