The Jani Hakanpaa situation in Toronto is a strange one, as the team landed him on a two-year deal, but now he's been spotted in his former team's jersey.

The off-season started strong for the Toronto Maple Leafs, who landed Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Chris Tanev and https://www.markerzone.com/hockey/stats/nhl/player/Jani-Hakanpaa-25147 to boost their struggling blue line. The latter has been surrounded by controversy however, as there has been speculation that his injury issues could ultimately lead to the end of his NHL career as we know it.
Despite reports of signing, the Maple Leafs are yet to make the signing official, and now, a photo of Hakanpaa has emerged at an event, with the hulking defenseman rocking a Dallas Stars jersey.
Maybe over-analyzing, but how often do active NHL players wear the jersey of their former team at events?

I don't think this Hakanpää deal is happening with TOR. It's definitely not done at least.
On the surface, this may not be the biggest issue, but given that the Maple Leafs are yet to officially announce the signings, it brings up the possibility that he won't be with Toronto next season. This is certainly a strange development in the Jani Hakanpaa story, as he would be a fantastic depth piece for the Maple Leafs, and while the team is reportedly confident in his injury issues, not signing him officially has raised some red flags.
Ultimately, we should hear more about this situation before training camp begins, but with no updates on the story until now, this raises the possibility that he won't be with the team moving forward.
