The Toronto Maple Leafs have had an up and down season. However, the team's recent hot streak means Brad Treliving could be more aggressive.
NHL Insider Shares Leafs Deadline Strategy
NHL insider Craig Button shared his thoughts on what the Leafs should do at the deadline yesterday. He is in the camp that the team should be aggressive buyers, especially on defense. Notably, the Leafs have been linked to multiple defensemen in trade rumors already this season. The Leafs have been linked to defensemen including Chris Tanev, Nikita Zadorov, and Mario Ferraro. However, we have not seen Brad Treliving pull the trigger just yet.
"I've heard again and again and again about the Toronto Maple Leafs' belief in their core, and they should have belief in their core. Well now, go and help the core. You're not going to win unless you get deeper, unless you become a deeper team. I'm talking about specifically on the blue line, there is just no way. To me, that's what I mean about being bold and if you're not going to be bold, you're throwing it up to a hope and a prayer. Hope and prayer is not a plan for me."

Leafs Hot Streak Solidifies Buyer Status At Trade Deadline
Until recently, it was not necessarily clear what Brad Treliving would do at the trade deadline. The Leafs had been playing mediocre hockey and they were even starting to slip into the wild card race. However, the team has rallied over the past month improving their record to 32-16-8. They have won 8 of their last 10, including the last six in a row. Furthermore, the team has scored 13 goals in their last two games.
As such, the team has re-solidified their hold on the 3rd spot in the Atlantic division. This will likely give Leafs general manager Brad Treliving confidence to make big moves as we approach the trade deadline. Be sure to stay tuned to see what moves the team makes.
