The Maple Leafs lineup has the players to be a playoff squad, but their lines are a mystery, and one decision from Head Coach Craig Berube could fix everything.

After another disappointing Stanley Cup Playoff finish in 2024, the Toronto Maple Leafs are making big changes ahead of next season, and it appears as though one decision has already been made, and that is keeping captain John Tavares on the third line. The veteran was demoted during the 2023/24 season under Sheldon Keefe, and while it wasn't done right, it was the right move, and now the question for new Head Coach Craig Berube is, who replaces him as the team's 2C?
According to one Maple Leafs reporter, the decision comes down to two other members of the core four in Mitch Marner and William Nylander, both of whom have the talent and the drive to play the role. This move won't just effect the second line however, as the loser of this role will likely pair with Auston Matthews on the top line, and with Tavares heading to the third line in this scenario, it moves veteran Max Domi to the other top line winger spot.
This is just one of many scenarios that can play out in Toronto this season under Stanley Cup winning Head Coach Craig Berube, but if he plays his cards right, this may be the deepest and most talented forward groups we've seen in Toronto for quite some time.
