The Vancouver Canucks aren't looking to tear it all down and start from scratch. They made that clear when they snagged Filip Hronek from the Detroit Red Wings. Now, it seems they have their sights set on another major deal.
Canucks Pursuing Significant Trade with Lightning
The Canucks already boast an impressive young core for the future. Quinn Hughes delivered a season worthy of Norris Trophy consideration, and Elias Pettersson surpassed the 100-point mark for the first time in his career.
The recent addition of Filip Hronek should provide Hughes with a reliable partner on the blue line for years to come.
With a promising selection in the 2023 draft on the horizon, the Canucks are reportedly seeking to bolster their roster further with a significant trade.
Colton's Time in Tampa May Be Up
Ross Colton has played an essential role in the Tampa Bay Lightning's success, but due to salary cap constraints, it's doubtful the team will be able to retain his services.
At 26 years old, Colton is an arbitration-eligible restricted free agent and would make an excellent addition to the Canucks lineup.
In the right environment, Colton has the potential to contribute 25 goals and 20-25 assists. While he may not be a superstar, his value extends beyond what the Lightning can afford, as he's due for a sizable pay bump from his current $1.125-million salary.
Time will tell if Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin can successfully execute this ambitious move.
