A pair of new reports have led to a major frenzy around the Vancouver area. These reports regarding the upcoming NHL trade deadline have indicated the team will be aggressive and revealed a player they might go after.

Canucks Expected To Make A Big Splash At The Trade Deadline

A new segment brought together by Rory Boylen of Sportsnet took a look at teams that are going to be involved at the trade deadline. One of the teams in the segment was the Vancouver Canucks. According to Boylen the Canucks are going to be active and could be willing to deal a first-round pick in the process.
The situation: First overall in the NHL on the morning of Jan. 16, the Canucks are firmly in the "buyers" category for the first time in years; the question isn't will they be active in the market, but how active?

Though Patrik Allvin is the GM, Jim Rutherford is the experienced president of hockey operations, and he has a history of attacking the trade market well ahead of the deadline. So, within two months of the March 8 trade deadline, the Canucks are a team to watch because they could be one of the more active and aggressive teams out there.

Pieces they could trade: First-round pick, Andrei Kuzemnko, Nils Hoglander, prospects.

With top picks and high-end talent like Andrei Kuzmenko on the block the Canucks could land a massive piece. A report from another NHL insider has given clarity on one of the best players expected to be available at the trade deadline.

Friedman Confirms Future Of Potential Star On The Trade Block

With the Canucks expected to be active and aggressive fans and media have been exploring potential options. One popular name that has surfaced is Pittsburgh Penguins forward Jake Guentzel.
With Guentzel entering the final season of his contract with the Penguins many are wondering if he will be traded. Heading into his 30-year-old season an extension would bring major risk for a Pittsburgh team on the edge of competing. According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, no decision has been made yet by the Penguins.
«Jake Guentzel was another name in the news this week. From what I understand, no determinations made on his future in Pittsburgh. But what I do think is the biggest factor here, is where the Penguins think they're going as a franchise over the next couple of years. I think that is going to be the true determination of Guentzel's future in Pittsburgh or elsewhere.»

If the Penguins do decide to part with Guentzel there isn't a much bigger splash that the Vancouver Canucks could make. With the Penguins having a fairly empty prospect cupboard taking on picks and prospects would likely be appetizing to them.
As the trade deadline approaches this situation will be one to monitor closely. The Canucks will likely be a key cog in the trade deadline machine this season.
