The Toronto Maple Leafs have suffered from a number of critical injuries already this season. Tonight they appear to have sustained another tough loss as goaltender Joseph Woll left the game early after sustaining an injury.
Woll Leaves Games Early With Injury
The play came about half way through the 3rd period. Woll appeared to make a routine save but he crumpled to the ice in his crease immediately. The referee quickly blew the whistle after a couple of seconds when Woll did not get back up.
The puck may have hit Woll is the collar bone area, one spot that many goaltenders will tell you is more vulnerable that you might expect. Sneaky shots have been known to break goaltender's clavicles even with the chest protector if they are particularly unlucky. Hopefully that is not the case with Woll.

It looks like this puck hit him awkwardly, but it did not. The specific injury is uncertain, but Joseph Woll is done for the night with just under 10 minutes left in this game.

According to Darren Dreger, the injury may very well have been lower-body as the goaltender did not put any weight on his left leg as he left the ice.
The injury lead to the debut of Leafs goaltender Martin Jones, who the team just called up to fill in for Samsonov as the team's backup.
We will await news on Woll's status after the game.
