The Philadelphia Flyers have had a difficult last few years. Having last made the playoffs in the 2019-20 season. Today President Of Hockey Operations Keith Jones announced that one of their better options on defense when healthy has decided to retire.

Ryan Ellis Retires

Keith Jones announced today that Ryan Ellis is expected to retire due to injuries he suffered during the 2021-22 season. Ellis when healthy was a good two-way defenseman providing stability to any team he was on. He ends his career with 566 NHL games played. Only 4 of them were able to be played with Philadelphia before the injury occurred.
#Flyers President of Hockey Operations Keith Jones told reporters today that D Ryan Ellis has a torn psoas muscle in his back, and has likely played his last NHL game.

Jones when asked about a surgical option for Ellis:

"I think that he's exhausting everything that he can in order to play, like we all do. You never want to have the void of not doing something that you'd love to do. He did it very effectively when he played so it's got to be really difficult."

He made several deep playoff runs with the Nashville Predators from 2015 to 2021. In his best playoff run, he was able to produce 13 points in 22 total games. Ryan Ellis will be remembered fondly in Nashville by fans and as well as the organization.
