Many NHL players, whose seasons have ended in North America, are taking part in the World Championship that's unfolding in Finland right now.

The competition is fierce, and a disturbing incident happened in today's game between Canada and Switzerland.

Veleno Tries To Cut Niederreiter

Red Wings forward Joe Veleno and Jets forward Nino Niederreiter are representing their respective nations at the IIHF World Championship.
During a battle for the puck, Veleno attempted to injure Niederreiter‘s leg by stomping on it with his skate.
This is an obviously very dirty play and is disappointing from Veleno. Thankfully, Niederreiter was not hurt but he was penalized after he retaliated against Veleno shortly after the board battle ended.
There is no doubt that Veleno will face punishment from the IIHF and will likely be suspended for multiple games.
