Despite their best attempts at fixing many issues, the officiating in the NHL is always a hot button issue, with referees constantly taking criticism for their performance, and now, Gary Bettman has received backlash for his latest move regarding the officials.
Recently, the NHL assigned Tommy Hughes, a former New York Ranger to their game against the Columbus Blue Jackets, and in controversial fashion, the linesman was a part of overturning two close calls.
Despite the calls being somewhat controversial, Bettman decided to again assign Hughes to the Rangers latest game against the Arizona Coyotes, a move that's drawn plenty of heat towards the Commissioner.
The decision not too is another example of the NHL clearly not being able to read the room, and with so many moves like this as of late, it brings so much negative attention to the league.
