Travis Dermott made a bold move this afternoon when he became the first player to openly defy the NHL's ban on pride tape as he used some on the shaft of his stick during the Coyotes home opener. The NHL has now issued a response.

NHL Responds To Pride Tape Use

Dermott has drawn a lot of attention to himself and the Coyotes by doing this and the move did not go unnoticed by the NHL. When reporters from the Athletic asked about the incident, the league gave a very dry response.
"We will review it in due course."
The league made an announcement just before the beginning of the season that Pride Tape would be banned from all NHL events, including all games and even team practices. As part of that announcement, the league noted that players who defy the ban will be fined, but the league did not specify how much the fine would be.

Brian Burke Steps In

Former NHL executive and long time ally of the LGBTQ community Brian Burke has said he would pay the fines of any player who uses the tape.
Burke posted on X today in support of Dermott, celebrating his actions as an ally for the community.
