This weekend marks Connor Bedard's first professional showcase in Winnipeg, where he encountered a shameful line of questioning from the local media.
The young star was asked about a contentious issue involving his former Chicago Blackhawks teammate, Corey Perry, as well as rumors surrounding his mother, Melanie. This was highlighted in Ben Pope's report for the Sun-Times.
Winnipeg media asked Connor Bedard about the impact of the Perry «rumors» today. Frankly, I don't think this was an appropriate time to do so. But I do think his response is worth posting:
«It's just a bunch of BS on the internet. It's of course been an affect on myself and my family, and that's not fair. But it's out of our control. It's all just fake, made-up stuff.»
Connor Bedard was asked by reporters in WPG about the unfounded rumours re: the Corey Perry situation.
He became annoyed as the questions persisted.
"I don't need to answer anymore questions about this stuff. It's all just a bunch of BS on the internet" - Bedard
Corey Perry also released a statement earlier in the week regarding the saga.
«As a result of my actions, there has been speculation and rumours. I am sickened by the impact this has had on others, and I want to make it clear that in no way did this situation involve any of my teammates or their families. Most importantly, I want to directly apologize to those who have been negatively affected and I am sorry for the additional impact to others it has created. My behaviour was inappropriate and wrong.»
What a disgusting act by the local Winnipeg media to ask this kind of question to a young man.
