Former Capitals player Stephen Peat passes away at just 44-years-old

There has been a lot of tragedy in the hockey world as of late as another former NHL player has passed away too soon.

Peat was suffering from injuries because of an accident he had two weeks ago. The injuries were severe enough that he was unable to recover, and he passed away at just 44-years-old. The NHL alumni on X posted about his passing.
Peat was originally drafted by the Anaheim Ducks in 1998, 32 overall (5th pick in the second round). Peat did not log any time playing with the Ducks, but did make his way to the Washington Capitals.
According to Hockeydb, Prior to his NHL and AHL career, he played four seasons with the Red Deer Rebels in the WHL from 1995-1999, being traded to the Tri-City Americans for a season and a half before eventually making his was to the AHL Portland Pirates.
He divided time each season he played from 2000-2007 between the Pirates and the Washington Capitals. He logged 130 games played at the NHL level scoring just 10 total NHL points (8G, 2A).
Peat was best known on the Caps as a bruiser and fighter. He tallied up 234 total penalty minutes in the NHL. According to hockey fights, one of his best and one of the highest rated fights in the NHL was between Peat and PJ Stock of the Boston Bruins.
Stephen will be missed by his friends and family.
