The game was critical for the Wild, who were still holding on to hope that they could make the playoffs with a regulation win against the Knights. Things did not go that way though as the game would go to overtime. John Hynes tried pulling the goalie for an extra attacker, but it would not work as Vegas scored on the empty net, giving the Wild zero points for the game. After the game ended, Ryan Hartman threw his stick at one of the officials as the Wild were exiting the ice. Reportedly, he was also verbally berating the referees.
These actions are unacceptable. While Hartman did not hit anyone with his stick, it is still a shocking display of immaturity and a cause for concern. As such, the league has handed him a three-game suspension. One must wonder what the suspension could have looked like if he actually made contact with an official.
