The Toronto Maple Leafs have been looking for a trade partner that can help them bolster their defense. Today a new team in the East has been connected in solving this issue for the Maple Leafs.
Maple Leafs Exploring A Trade With A New Team
According to NHL insider Darren Dreger, the Maple Leafs continue to work the phones looking for solutions to fix their defense. One team that was mentioned recently by Dreger as a possible partner is the Philadelphia Flyers. Dreger thinks the Maple Leafs could target two different defensemen from the Flyers.
"Undoubtedly Toronto is talking to Philadelphia. Is it Nick Seeler, Sean Walker, maybe both?"
With these players in mind, Darren Dreger was able to provide what a potential return could look like for these players. The names mentioned leaving Toronto might be too much to give up in the eyes of Maple Leafs fans.
NHL Insider Suggets Expensive Return For Maple Leafs To Land A Defenseman
Darren Dreger continued and talked about what the Philadelphia Flyers could want in return for Seeler or Walker. Dreger reminds everyone that the Flyers are still building for the future so prospects would hold the most value.
"Toronto's not sitting there with a whole bunch of prospects they can trade. If you're a Leaf fan and you're excited about Fraser Minten, well, so are the Flyers. The assets you don't want to move are the ones they want and that makes the challenge for the GMs increase because those prospects that you already have, clearly are advanced over a draft pick that you don't have yet."
It sounds as though the Maple Leafs would need to part with a top-end prospect like Fraser Minten to get the deal done. If the Maple Leafs believe these players can fix the defensive issues it would be worth it. But with Joseph Woll also out now going all in just for this season might not be the smartest move.
