Nazem Kadri's future in Calgary is uncertain as the rebuilding Flames are officially open to trading the former Maple Leafs forward, stirring up interest in Toronto once again.

Craig Button, appearing on SportsCentre with Jay Onrait, emphasized that the Toronto Maple Leafs should prioritize reacquiring Kadri over extending Tyler Bertuzzi and Max Domi.
"I'm not doing anything with those 2 players until I understand what's available with respect to Nazem Kadri... He's exactly what the Toronto Maple Leafs need as a 2nd line center. Exactly what they need, and he's better than Domi and he's better than Bertuzzi and so if you can do that, then you do that first and foremost... I would be pressing Craig Conroy at every single turn. If I don't get [Kadri], I'm putting my efforts into Max Domi."
The Flames are in the midst of a massive rebuild right now, and that sometimes means letting go of players, even if they're good. They're currently exploring options to trade Kadri, and while his move to Toronto is not guaranteed, it's very likely.
In just two seasons, Kadri made a huge impact with the Flames, scoring an impressive 53 goals in 164 games, nothing to scoff at.
Kadri, carrying a $7 million cap hit and a full no-movement clause for the next two years (which turns into a modified no-trade clause in the final three years), remains a productive player. Last season, he scored 29 goals and 75 points in 82 games while averaging 18:26 of ice time per game. Over the past three seasons, Karri's stats have been nothing short of fantastic, producing 81 goals and 218 points in 235 games.
What the Leafs need right now is someone consistent and reliable, someone who can also play aggressively and push forward. Nazem Kadri is no doubt that guy and he will bring a lot to the team.
