New trade rumor emerges landing the Maple Leafs the son of NHL legend Shane Doan

The Toronto Maple Leafs have mostly made changes to their forward group this summer under Brad Treliving. Many were hoping for more changes to the forward group and today a rumored trade would achieve this.

Maple Leafs young forward Nick Robertson has struggled to get significant minutes with the NHL club. Due to his play style, he is a less effective player when playing in the bottom six. After his lack of success he has reportedly requested a trade this summer.

With the trade request in mind several rumors have popped up involving Nick Robertson. Today the latest rumor would bring the son of a Hockey Hall of Famer to the Maple Leafs.

The trade rumor circulating today is centered around Arizona Coyotes legend Shane Doan's son Josh Doan. With the Arizona Coyotes being moved to Utah some believe the organization would be more willing to move on from Josh Doan.

Josh Doan's style of play could be more conducive to what the Maple Leafs need from their young players. Due to the top-heavy nature of the Maple Leafs, they need players who can succeed in the bottom of the lineup doing the small thing as much as scoring.

In his first full pro season, Josh Doan played 62 AHL games and 11 NHL games. In Tuscon, he played at the top of the lineup and scored 46 points in 62 games. Heading to the NHL he played more of a depth role but kept up the scoring with 9 points in 11 games. This is a style and versatility of game for Josh Doan that could be very beneficial in Toronto.

For the Utah Hockey Club, they are looking to add skill that is NHL-ready to surround their young core and make a playoff run. Their need for top-end-of-the-lineup players works out well if they end up pursuing Nick Robertson.

As of now this trade is nothing but a rumor but if it materializes, it could be a great move for both teams to add what they need to make the next step towards competing.
