Now several days after signing with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Chris Tanev's final offer from the Dallas Stars has finally been revealed.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have been reworking and retooling their team for ages. In what was one of their bolder moves, they decided to recruit Florida Panthers' own goaltender Anthony Stolarz to join recently extended Joseph Woll and Matt Martin.
"Signed to a 3-year extension at $3.66 million per season Monday, a sophomore Joseph Woll will battle with Matt Murray and Anthony Stolarz for supremacy in the @MapleLeafs crease in 2024-25. Over 36 games in the last 3 seasons as a rookie, he posted the 7th highest win total here"
However, these goaltending moves are not the most dramatic shift in Toronto. Trying to remain contenders for next season's playoffs, the Maple Leafs opted to sign on Chris Tanev after acquiring his rights from the Dallas Stars.
"🖊️ We've signed defenceman Chris Tanev to a six-year contract"
"The Stars weren't in the same ballpark as the Leafs to entice Tanev to re-sign there. Their best offer was $15 million over three years."
Given that Chris Tanev gets three additional years in the league and the chance to play in his hometown, it is no surprise he turned down a higher annual salary from Dallas. Hopefully, he can still play to his full potential for the Toronto Maple Leafs until he finishes out his contract.
