Ross Colton hit with a massive fine after dirty act

Mid way through the game, Avalanche centre Ross Colton laid out Luke Hughes with a massive hit from behind, which led to many on social media calling out his dirty antics.
While that play was largely ignored by the Department of Player Safety, his cross check to the face of Timo Meier wasn't, as the DPOS have handed out a $5,000 fine, the maximum allowable under the CBA.
Colorado's Ross Colton has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for Cross-checking New Jersey's Timo Meier.

A physical presence the Avalanche have been missing

In the past few years, the Avalanche have seen some success with their third Stanley Cup in franchise history, but around that run, they've also flamed out with some very short playoff runs.
Now, even without their captain, it appears they've found a big, physical force in the middle of their lineup, and if their stars can stay healthy and Colton can stay on the ice, this will be a team to watch all season long.
