A few weeks ago, the Seattle Kraken made history by hiring the first female coach in NHL history, and now the Colorado Avalanche have continued making history with another intriguing hire. According to a report, Kim Weiss will join the Colorado Eagles, the AHL affiliate of the Avalanche as a video coach, a major step forward in her coaching journey.
Weiss played her college hockey at Trinity College, while also serving as a guest at the Avalanche's off-season workouts over the past two years, and now, those connections continue as she plays a key role as the video coach for the AHL powerhouse Eagles. She is widely regarded as one of the best coaches of the future in hockey, garnering major respect at just 35-years of age after spending 2023/24 as an assistant at Trinity College, furthering her rise through the coaching ranks.
Jessica Campbell began her career with a similar trajectory, and after playing a key role in the AHL, was hired by the Seattle Kraken this off-season, and if Weiss continues to develop, expect her to be a candidate for a role in the NHL in the future.
