Corey Perry has long been a controversial and polarizing figure in the NHL world, and now, he's addressed the scandal that led to his departure from the Chicago Blackhawks.

Corey Perry speaks for the first time as an Edmonton Oiler

Despite the circumstances, the Edmonton Oilers went ahead and inked Perry to a deal for the remainder of the 2023-24 season, and after his first practice with the team, Perry has opened up on his termination from Chicago.
perry: "over the last two months, i've really had a chance to reflect and get the help and take full responsibility for what happened in chicago, and try to better myself. those are the things i've been working on. i've been working in people in the mental health field, and in different fields. it's been a long time to get back to this spot, to be back on the ice with players, and the nhl. i have to thank my family, my friends, all the support i've gotten. the support from my councillors, just trying to better myself each and every day.

from where i was two months ago, to where i am today, i think it's been a world of difference the help i've gotten and where i've come from."
The veteran forward has long been one of the most hated players in the NHL, and while we don't know the details on what happened in Chicago, it's safe to say that this was a major risk for the Oilers. It appears as though he's in a better place after a few months away from the game however, and with this potentially being his last chance, we may see the best version of him on the ice in the coming weeks and months.
