Insider confirms the Oilers have made a decision on Dylan Holloway's offer sheet

Earlier this month the Edmonton Oilers were caught by surprise when a pair of restricted free agents Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway were offered contracts by the St. Louis Blues.

The move came as a shock because the offer sheet is not often used by other teams when signing free agents. However, with the Edmonton Oilers up against the salary cap the St. Louis Blues are looking to take advantage of them. The Oilers have just a few days left to match the offers or take the draft pick compensation.

To this point, there had not been any indication of what the Edmonton Oilers' plans are going to be. However, that all changed today with a new report from insider Elliotte Friedman.

In a new report this morning trusted insider Elliotte Friedman spoke about this complex situation. According to his sources the Edmonton Oilers plan to at least match the Dylan Holloway contract which is the cheaper of the two.

With this now potentially confirmed it just leaves the future of Philip Broberg in doubt. His situation is the more complex one due to the St. Louis Blues offering over 4 million dollars. The Oilers would need to move out some serious money to make room for him.

If the Edmonton Oilers do not match the contract they would also receive a combination of draft picks which could be used to find a cheaper replacement. As the days continue to go by it will be interesting to see what the Oilers do and how it impacts the future of the NHL and the use of the offer sheet.
