As a new Stanley Cup champion with the Florida Panthers, Matthew Tkachuk found himself in trouble after celebrating in a unique way.
Matthew Tkachuk didn't know it was against the rules to take the Stanley Cup into the ocean. It also wasn't his idea, and he's making sure proper credit is given.
Caught up in the excitement, Tkachuk took the Cup into the Atlantic Ocean.

It was right after we won, and I hadn't slept yet. It was just me and a few teammates. We didn't have anyone around to tell me, ‘Matthew, don't be an idiot. Don't do that.' So, I thought it'd be fun. If I'd known it was a rule, I wouldn't have done it. But looking back, I think it's kind of funny.
Despite this hiccup, Matthew redeemed himself during his day with the Cup in St. Louis, showing why he's such a beloved player.
"I've dreamt of this day for my entire life...being able to bring the Cup back to St. Louis." - Matthew Tkachuk (2024 Stanley Cup Champion)
STL, this one's for you too
Tkachuk clarified that it wasn't his idea; he blamed his brother, Ottawa Senators captain Brady, for the act. You might wonder, what's the issue? Well, there's a rule against that because the 35 pound Cup could sink.
