Spencer Carbery served as one of Sheldon Keefe's assistant coaches for several seasons before taking on a head coach role with the Washington Capitals this season. He had some nice things to say about his former bench boss.

Carbery Praises Keefe

Carbery was asked about his relationship with Keefe ahead of tonight's matchup between the Capitals and Leafs. He described how he learned from Keefe and really gave him a lot of credit for changing his way of coaching.
"A lot of the ways he sees the game, I've learned a ton. Bench management. There are some unique things that he does a little bit differently than some other coaches and (I) picked some of those up," Carbery said of Keefe. I could think about 100 different things that I've incorporated into my coaching style that I learned from him"

Keefe Reveals Secret About Carbery

Sheldon Keefe was also asked about his relationship with Carbery ahead of the matchup tonight and he shared an interesting story. Apparently, Keefe was reluctant to ask Carbery to be one of his assistants since he thought the position might be below him.
"I was a little reluctant to ask him if he would be an assistant because of how much I respected him as a head coach."

Clearly, these two coaches have a ton of mutual respect for each other. The Leafs ultimately ended up defeating the Capitals 4-1 despite heavy pressure from Ovechkin and his team mates.
