After the Maple Leafs lost in the playoffs, Mikhail Sergachev faced a lot of attention from the media.

They spread rumors that he had mocked the Maple Leafs for celebrating their lone playoff series victory.
The translation that went viral was not accurate:
"Wow, [Toronto] only managed to win one playoff series in 19 years and then lost right away. They don't deserve any applause. No other team would make a big deal out of something like this."

But Sergachev has now hit back at the media, claiming they are spreading fake news.

Sergachev's Comments

Sergachev took to Instagram to directly respond to the media's unreliable reporting. Here's what he said:
"Lol, if you don't speak Russian don't use google translate as your first option and then spread misinformation! I never said it like that!

Question was *Toronto played very physical which got couple of your defensemen hurt, is that true?" And I said "no it just happens sometimes people get hurt by accident, and I don't want to givet hem credit"

Rep: "Why not give them credit?"

Me: "Why? I don't think they deserved
them"

Rep: "For the first time in 19 years
passed first round"

Me: "Here true, good on them! But didn't go thru second round, I don't
see a reason to celebrate"

Check your sources or find someone who speak the lanquage, don't be a clown.

In reality, Sergachev wasn't teasing the Maple Leafs. The misinterpretation made it seem like he was criticizing them, but he was actually acknowledging their gameplay and partial success. The media's mistake distorted his words and unfairly portrayed him as a detractor.
