The Toronto Maple Leafs have upgraded their blue line immensely this off-season, but this latest proposal would see them finish their work with a former Cup winner.
After a quiet summer, the Vegas Golden Knights are looking worse than we've seen for a number of years, and with the need for offensive injection following the loss of Jonathan Marchessault, a deal could make sense between Vegas and Toronto. Now, an intriguing proposal from social media has been revealed that would seemingly benefit both parties;
Marner for Pietrangelo?
Not sure Theodore would fit anymore after the OEL signing and Berube/Savard/van Ryn would all be extremely familiar with Pietrangelo
Just spitballing, I'd think VGK would have to add and maybe the Leafs want a C, but there's probably something there
On the surface, reuniting Pietrangelo with Craig Berube would be a brilliant move, and would give Toronto the depth they need on the blue line to overcome injuries and the pressures of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Obviously a trade would need to be fleshed out much more, but the basis of a trade being Marner-for-Pietrangelo would benefit both teams, especially if the Golden Knights could work on an extension with the star forward.
From the last update, it appears as though the Maple Leafs are in no rush to trade Mitch Marner, but if they can land an experienced star on the blue line and then use free agency/another trade to improve their offense, this could finally be the year they take a huge leap forward.
