The hockey world was sent into shock this weekend when the Nottingham Panthers of the EIHL announced their player and former Penguin Adam Johnson had passed away following a fatal accident on the ice.

Gretzky Makes Controversial Statement About Johnson's Death

Tonight, TNT hosted its first NHL game coverage since the tragic event and panelist Wayne Gretzky made an interesting comment that got the attention of some fans. He called the event a 'so-called' accident and appeared to start to use air quotes before he stopped himself, putting his hands down.
Some fans noticed this right away, and began to speculate about how Gretzky really thinks about the situation.
In a world where everyone is highly concerned about the type of language they use, especially on the internet, it seems that Gretzky's choice of words was deliberate. While players from both teams at the game where the incident occurred insist it was a freak accident, there are a few prominent former NHLers that have questioned the events just based on what they could see. Among them are Mark Methot and Chris Therien.
We will have to see if Gretzky will clarify these comments at a later time or if the TNT panel will just move along with the show.
