Insider Reveals Brad Treliving Looking at Two Former Leafs in Potential Deadline Trade

There is no question that the Leafs will need to make some moves at the deadline this year if they want to be a contending team, as they still have a lot of gaps in their roster that have yet to be filled. What new GM Brad Treliving is willing to do though, is another question, as it has been reported that he isn't a huge fan of in season moves.

However, NHL insider David Pagnotta has now linked several players to the Leafs as targets for a potential trade. Among those players are former Leafs Ilya Lyubushkin and Alexander Barabanov.

There is a case to be made for both Lybushkin and Barabanov as fits in the Leafs roster, though, Lybushkin could make more of an immediate impact than Barabanov. Barabanov is a depth left winger, something the Leafs have no shortage of, and is struggling to score this year. However, with Calle Jarnkrok out, there is a case to be made to bring in reinforcements.

Lybushkin, on the other hand, is the big physical defenseman that the Leafs have been craving this season. As Mark Giordano starts to show his age down the stretch, it could be useful for the Leafs to bring in another defenseman, one who can bring an aspect of physicality that they are lacking.

We will see if Treliving does decide that he needs to make a move at this deadline, and if a reunion for the Leafs is ahead.
