Predators general manager Barry Trotz has quietly been busy this season and now his next move has been leaked to the media.

Trotz Gives Barrie Permission To Talk With Other Teams Regarding Trade

The Predators have been a team that revolves around their defense and goaltending for quite some time. They have earned a reputation for being one of the better teams to develop blueliners in the entire NHL. Among the most notable blueliners to be drafted and developed by the Preds are Roman Josi, Shea Weber, and Mattias Ekholm. Now the team is reportedly looking at trading on of their more offensively minded defenders.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reported this news today on X.
There is word today the Nashville Predators have given Tyson Barrie permission to talk to other teams. Barrie is expected to be a scratch vs the Rangers and is a UFA after this season. This allows team and player to see if there is a better fit elsewhere

Barrie Does Not Fit In Nashville's Defensive System

The 32-year old defender seemingly has not fit in great in Nashville. The team plays a more stay-at-home style while Barrie is used to playing a run-and-gun style of hockey. As a result, his advanced metrics do not look great this year.
Barrie has no goals and 9 assists through 22 games this season with a minus 5 rating on plus minus. He has played in 790 games in his career so far, putting up 108 goals and 499 points.

Potential New NHL Teams For Barrie

At this point in his career, Barrie is probably best suited to play a bottom pair, top powerplay role. There are a number of teams throughout the league that could use some help on the powerplay but it is unclear how many of those teams are actually trying to compete this year. However, he could always be picked up now and then flipped again at the deadline by a team looking to add future assets.
The Nashville Predators have granted Tyson Barrie permission to discuss trade opportunities with other teams per @TheAthleticNHL. Barrie has been really bad this season at both ends of the ice to be honest. The change of scenery could help him.
While Barrie's numbers do not look great this year, he is a respected, big-name defenseman that is well known by NHL general managers. There will likely be interest from multiple teams in the 32-year-old despite his poor play this season. Who knows, perhaps a fresh start with a new team can help turn Barrie's season around.
