Even with offseason trades slowing to a halt, the Philadelphia Flyers and Toronto Maple Leafs remain one of the most optimal NHL franchise pairs for a trade scenario.

The 2024 NHL offseason has seemed to grind to a halt after many recent UFAs have been acquired by a team in the league. Among the teams looking unfinished heading into the upcoming season is the Toronto Maple Leafs, who despite being very active in the summer market, did nothing to their Core 4. Understandably, the trade conversation has remained focused on Mitch Marner, who could bring in more than one valuable player should he be sent elsewhere.
"What would the return on a Mitch Marner trade look like for the Toronto Maple Leafs?

If the Leafs do decide to trade Marner, they could get a haul for the 28-year-old, despite his contract expiring after next season."
However, the discussion has led many to believe that an ideal trade for the Toronto team can be made with one of their prior interests. Last year, Elliotte Friedman of the 32 Thoughts podcast reported that the Flyers had an interest in Maple Leafs left-wing forward Nick Robertson. Toronto, in turn, previously expressed interest in Philadelphia's Scott Laughton.
"Friedman reports on 32 Thoughts that #FueledByPhilly has had interest in Nick Robertson in the past

Says they could rekindle their interest in pursuit of Scott Laughton trade, also says many teams are calling about Laughton"
Despite this interest being seen in the past, both teams still have the option to make it happen. Recent reports imply there is a greater chance after it was confirmed that Philadelphia and Toronto's reciprocal desires for the other player were confirmed.
"Philly really likes Nick Robertson and Toronto really likes Scott Laughton"
With both the Toronto Maple Leafs and Philadelphia Flyers looking to break their bad luck streak with the Stanley Cup playoffs, it would make sense for them to shake up their lineups with an offseason trade of the two players and possible draft picks. If all goes well, both teams could have a new face and a better chance of contending next season.
